Cavium Networks Introduces netHD(TM) (Networked High Definition) Wi-Fi Reference Design for In-Home Wireless HD Video Distribution With 1080p60 Quality and Sub-Frame LatencyCavium's Cost Optimized, Standards-Based netHD(TM) Wi-Fi Reference Design Uses H.264 With SLL Technology(TM) Along With 802.11n for Seamless Point-to-Point or Point-to-Multipoint Video Delivery Within the Home
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, Jun 01, 2009 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Cavium Networks (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor
products that enable intelligent processing for networking,
communications, storage, wireless, video and security applications,
today announced a comprehensive netHD Wi-Fi reference design. The
reference design delivers 1080p60 quality and sub-frame latency video
using standards-based H.264 video compression along with
standards-based 802.11n Wi-Fi technology for in-room or multi-room
delivery through walls. The sub-frame latency enabled through
Cavium's patent-pending SLL (Super Low Latency) technology makes this
an ideal platform for enabling interactive video applications such as
gaming. This reference design incorporates HDCP 2.0 (High Definition
Content Protection) protocol and supports the industry standard DLNA
(Digital Living Network Alliance) protocol. The reference design can
be used by consumer electronic manufacturers, service providers,
gaming console vendors, media PC and after market gateway and HDMI
cable replacement vendors to introduce systems that deliver full HD
1080p60 quality in-home video distribution to a single or multiple
flat panel displays within the home. The netHD Wi-Fi reference design
will be on display at Computex in Taipei, Taiwan, June 2-6, 2009. To
schedule a meeting and demonstration please contact Angel Atondo via
e-mail: angel.atondo@caviumnetworks.com.
Homes today contain multiple flat panel televisions and displays
connected to a variety of sources such as set-top boxes, game
consoles, DVD/Blu-ray players, media PCs and portable media players.
Interconnecting the various sources to multiple displays in multiple
rooms is a wiring nightmare. Consumer equipment manufacturers,
service providers, and gaming console vendors are looking for a
standards-based, secure and cost effective technology to transport
real-time, HD 1080p60 quality video within the home between multiple
displays and content sources. The netHD Wi-Fi solution eliminates the
need for wires enabling seamless interconnection from any source to
any display.
Cavium's netHD Wi-Fi reference design provides a cost effective,
ready-to-use and feature rich development platform to build
next-generation in-home wireless video distribution systems. This
platform integrates the PureVu(TM) CNW3602 video CODEC and the
OCTEON(TM) CN50XX processor with 2x HDMI interfaces, 1x VGA input, 1x
SPDIF audio output, 1x GE port, 1x USB 2.0 host and 1x mini-PCI slot
that supports any 802.11n Wi-Fi card. The HDMI interfaces can input
1080p60 video and send a secure compressed stream over 802.11n Wi-Fi
to any or multiple displays within the home.
The netHD Wi-Fi reference design ships with an out-of-the-box and
ready-to-use netHD Application Suite. The application suite is
optimized to dynamically adapt and deliver the highest quality video
viewing experience reliably over Wi-Fi. The application suite comes
bundled with software for video transport, DLNA device discovery,
Security/Content Protection and support for extensive real time and
adaptive Quality of Service (QoS). Features include sub-frame latency
across varying distances and network conditions, high-performance
rate-adaptive algorithms coupled with QoS which guarantee an
un-interrupted wireless video and audio experience to users.
Additionally the suite includes a full set of HDCP 2.0 security
protocols to support industry standard content protection schemes.
The netHD suite can also seamlessly integrate and co-exist with other
DLNA compatible devices in the home.
