Cavium Networks Introduces netHD(TM) (Networked High Definition) Wired Reference Design for In-Home Wired HD Video Distribution With the 1080p60 Quality and Sub-Frame LatencyCavium's Cost Optimized, Standards-Based netHD(TM) Wired Reference Design Uses H.264 With SLL Technology(TM) for Seamless Point-to-Point or Point-to-Multipoint Video Delivery Within the Home
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, Jun 01, 2009 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Cavium Networks (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor
products that enable intelligent processing for networking,
communications, storage, wireless, video and security applications,
today announced a comprehensive netHD Wired reference design. The
reference design delivers 1080p60 quality and sub-frame latency video
using standards-based H.264 video compression. It uses
standards-based networking technologies such as Powerline, Ethernet,
MoCA (Multi-media over Coax) or HomePNA for in-room or multi-room
delivery. The sub-frame latency enabled through Cavium's patent
pending SLL (Super Low Latency) technology makes this an ideal
platform for enabling interactive video applications such as gaming.
This reference design incorporates HDCP 2.0 content protection
protocol and supports the industry-standard DLNA (Digital Living
Network Alliance) protocol. It can be used by consumer electronic
manufacturers, service providers, gaming console vendors, media PC
and after market gateway and HDMI cable replacement vendors to
introduce systems that deliver full HD 1080p60 quality in-home video
distribution to a single or multiple flat panel displays within the
home. The netHD Wired reference design will be on display at Computex
in Taipei, Taiwan, June 2-6, 2009. To schedule a meeting and
demonstration please contact Angel Atondo via e-mail:

Homes today contain multiple flat panel televisions and displays
connected to a variety of sources such as set-top boxes, game
consoles, DVD/Blu-ray players, media PCs and portable media players.
Adding HDMI cabling is impractical and expensive. Consumer equipment
manufacturers, service providers and gaming console vendors are
looking for a standards-based, secure and cost effective technology
to transport real time HD1080p60 quality video within the home
between multiple displays and content sources. Cavium Networks' netHD
Wired reference design interconnects various content sources to
multiple displays utilizing existing cabling through standards such
as MoCA, HPNA, Powerline and Ethernet. Any combination of these
networking standards along with Cavium's netHD Wired solution will
provide a standards-based, cost effective, sub-frame latency and
1080p60 quality video distribution system within the home.
Cavium's netHD Wired reference design provides a cost effective,
ready-to-use and feature rich development platform to build the next
generation of in-home wired video distribution systems called netHD
gateways. The platform integrates the PureVu(TM) CNW3602 video CODEC
and the OCTEON(TM) CN50XX processor with 2x HDMI interfaces, 1x VGA
input, 1x SPDIF audio output, 1x GE port, 1x USB 2.0 host and 1x
mini-PCI slot. The HDMI interfaces can input 1080p60 video and send a
secure compressed stream to the integrated Gigabit Ethernet interface
or mini-PCI slot for transport using any popular home networking
standard like MoCA, Powerline, HPNA or Ethernet.
The netHD Wired reference design ships with an out-of-the-box and
ready-to-use netHD Application Suite. The application suite is
optimized to dynamically adapt and deliver the highest quality video
viewing experience reliably over MoCA, Powerline, HPNA or Ethernet.
The application suite comes bundled with software for video
transport, DLNA device discovery, Security/Content Protection and
support for extensive real time and adaptive Quality of Service
(QoS). Additionally the suite includes a full set of HDCP 2.0
security protocols to support industry standard content protection
schemes. The netHD suite can also seamlessly integrate and co-exist
with other DLNA compatible devices in the home.
