Air Canada Inaugurates Daily Non-Stop Seasonal Flights from Calgary to Palm Springs, California

CALGARY, Dec. 16, 2006 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX News Network) -- Air Canada today continued its transborder U.S. expansion from western Canada with the inauguration of daily, non-stop flights to Palm Springs, California. Air Canada Jazz operates the flights with next-generation, made-in-Canada Bombardier CRJ-705 aircraft, featuring 10 Executive Class and 65 Economy seats. This seasonal service will operate until April 10, 2007.

"We are delighted to launch daily, non-stop flights from Calgary to Palm Springs and offer a choice of traveling to the warm California desert in style with our Executive Class service," said Daniel Shurz, Air Canada's vice president responsible for network planning at Air Canada and Jazz. "With the expansion of our North American fleet, we are deploying aircraft to grow our service to leisure destinations to meet travel demand."

Air Canada flight AC 8598 departs Calgary at 09:05, arriving in Palm Springs at 11:00. Air Canada flight AC 8599 departs Palm Springs at 11:35, arriving in Calgary at 15:30. The schedule is timed for convenient connections in Calgary to and from Edmonton, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Regina, Saskatoon and Winnipeg.

The CRJ-705 aircraft features all-leather seating and is configured in two classes of service offering 10 window or aisle seats in Executive Class offering 37 inches of legroom, and 65 window or aisle seats in Economy offering a generous 34 inches of legroom. All seats are being equipped with Air Canada's new in-seat personal entertainment system. The Bombardier CRJ-705 aircraft has a cruising speed of 860 km/h and a range of more than 3,200 km. Jazz operates a fleet of 15 CRJ-705s.

Air Canada and Jazz have proudly served Calgary longer than any other carrier. Together they operate more non-stop flights within Canada and to the United States than any other airline. Within Canada, the carriers operate more than 960 non-stop flights per day on 131 routes to and from 67 Canadian airports. Between Canada and the United States, the carriers operate more than 390 non-stop flights per day on 89 routes to and from 51 U.S. and eight Canadian destinations.
