TLC Designer Mark Montano Gives an Ohio Couple a Bedroom of Their Dreams; Dayton-Area Wife and Husband Receive Bedroom Makeover after Winning North American Radisson Hotels & Resorts ''Sleepstakes'' ContestENGLEWOOD, Ohio, Jan 25, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- You've heard the reports and probably have seen the
statistics. It's a fact of life. Sleep, or lack thereof, affects our
daily functioning and our physical and mental health in ways that we
are just now beginning to understand.
That's why Radisson Hotels & Resorts teamed up with Mark Montano,
TLC's celebrity designer of the show "While You Were Out," to create
an extraordinary haven for better sleep. Montano also appears on TLC's
"10 Years Younger" where he and a glam squad take years off a
participant's looks in just ten days without surgery. Montano did just
that. He took 10 years off Mary and Jim Gaskill's bedroom. Mary
Gaskill was one of nearly 700,000 people who entered Radisson Hotels &
Resorts' "Sleepstakes" contest, a contest to raise awareness of
Radisson's desire to help travelers sleep better on the road by
exclusively offering the SELECT COMFORT(R) SLEEP NUMBER(R) bed
throughout North America. The contest was held between May 15, 2005,
and September 6, 2005.
"This whole process has been so exciting and something I never
expected would happen to me," said Mary Gaskill. "Mark Montano did
things I never would have thought to do in a bedroom!"
Montano worked with the Gaskills to create the perfect sleeping
environment, which includes a new Sleep Number(R) bed. Unlike
traditional mattresses, which are made from metal coils or springs,
the Sleep Number bed uses uniquely designed air chambers to provide a
gentle cushion of support that can be easily adjusted to an
individual's preference for comfort, firmness and support. Best of
all, each side of the Sleep Number bed can be individually adjusted to
the precise comfort level each partner prefers.
The planning and preparation for the Gaskills' bedroom makeover
began in December, and the transformation is being revealed today.
"The Gaskills were a delightful couple to work with," said
designer Mark Montano. "I could tell they were a little leary about
this process and didn't want anything drastic done to their bedroom,
or the antiques that were in it, but we were able to find a look that
complemented their existing antiques while basically giving this room
a fresh and more modern look!"
Making over your bedroom doesn't have to break the bank. Montano
has 10 tips that can help you do a similar transformation to your
bedroom and make it look 10 years younger. For starters, to create a
beautiful bedroom, change the look of the linens.
Love of Linens. Dressing the bed is as important as placing the
furniture. Linen doesn't have to dominantly match other fabrics in the
room, but attention to color and textures will help give the room a
sense of style.
Personalize with Paint. Don't be afraid of color! Simply choose
colors you love - then go with varying tints of the hue for a softer,
quieter look. A trendy paint color is an inexpensive way to add spice
and warmth to any room in the house. Complete the look with
coordinating accessories.
Pillow Talk. Add more decorative pillows to liven up a room.
Pillows are a form of decorative art that you can scatter throughout
the room. But, keep in mind that simpler looks have replaced the
over-upholstered bed of recent years, with its layers of quilts,
throws, shams and neck rolls.
Have Fun with Furniture. Think you don't have enough room as it
is? Well, adding a settee or a bench will create dimension to the
room.
Go Wild for Windows. Let light come through windows without
interruptions. Remove secondary glazing, which absorbs light, and omit
objects placed on window sills. Replace heavy curtains with blinds or
muslin drapes.
Lean Toward Lamps. Add lamps to soften the lighting in the room.
The right light will help you wind down and get a good night's sleep.
Also consider layering the lighting throughout the room so you have
the right kind for your different needs, such as ceiling lights and
table lamps.
Rally for Rugs. Flooring is vital in a bedroom to create
atmosphere and add comfort and convenience. Flooring can also
influence how a visitor sees the size, shape, function and atmosphere
of a room.
Validate with Vases. Every room deserves a fresh bouquet of
flowers and also a focal point. A focal point can be anything you
choose: a special vase, a treasured antique, or a collection of accent
pieces place on a table or even a bed.
Flirt with Frames. Decorate your walls or your dressers with
family photographs. Your room is your sanctuary ... make it personal.
Magnificent Mirrors. Adding mirrors to a small space can
oftentimes make the room appear larger than it actually is. Also,
mirrors amplify light. Place a large mirror opposite the window to
reflect light around the room.
