STMicroelectronics CEO awarded Engineering Excellence Award by Arizona State University Geneva, November 9, 2001 - STMicroelectronics President and CEO, Pasquale Pistorio was honored last evening with the prestigious Arizona State University College of Engineering and Applied Sciences Engineering Award for his contributions to the engineering profession, the university and society at-large. The award specifically recognized Pistorio for his efforts in building STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM) into a semiconductor-manufacturing powerhouse. STMicroelectronics is now ranked sixth among the top ten semiconductor companies, with 2000 sales totaling $7.8 billion. The award also highlighted Pistorio's staunch advocacy of environmental protection. At STMicroelectronics he has been responsible for inspiring and introducing a wide-ranging program of environmental initiatives. His peers in the industry have named Pistorio the 'environmental evangelist'.
Pistorio is the award's third recipient. Gary Tooker, ASU Class of '63 and former Motorola CEO and chairman of the board of directors was the first recipient of this award. Tooker presented Pistorio's nomination to Arizona State's college Executive Committee.
